Renfrew County Inquest Public Art Response

The Renfrew County Inquest Public Art Response brought together multiple organizations to realize the creation of a permanent public artwork offering Renfrew County residents opportunities to make meaning of and respond to the September 22, 2015 murders of Anastasia Kuzyk, Nathalie Warmerdam, and Carol Culleton, in the Ottawa Valley. Now permanently installed in Water Tower Park, an 8-foot pebble mosaic commission by artist Anna Camilleri, and multiple small community-generated mosaics, help to tangibly connect impacted communities to a larger movement of support and community action to end gender-based violence.

Many of the small mosaics were taken home by community members, and over 100 of them were installed permanently as a stepping stone pathway in Killaloe Pathways Park in August 2023. This stepping stone pathway was unveiled and celebrated as part of the 2023 Pathways of Resistance Arts Festival - an inaugural event bringing together artists from the Ottawa Valley and beyond to activate themes of community, collaboration, and social justice during a full-day festival on August 26, 2023, with pop-up events on August 21, 23 and 24.
